Semester 3

Semester 1, I focused on how lighting affects player emotions and decisions in a scene, making a walk through environment and having people play through it while I gathered feedback and watch their choices.
Semester 2, was all about creating a large environment and seeing how I could best utilise modular pieces and fewer textures within the scene, while also focusing on improving the speed and quality of my prop creation during the project. I also learnt a lot about lighting a larger environment in this project and how using lights can really change the mood and perception of a scene.
Semester 3, I really want to try to bring together what I learnt from the past two semesters and create a smaller scene, but with a much high level of detail. While still pushing to learn more and continuing to look at environment artists.
What the plan is for Semester 3
The main idea is to create an indoor environment, one large room which I can focus on putting a lot of detail into and really refining the lighting and textures for a higher quality environment.
I want to really improve my skills with ZBrush this semester as I've avoided it for a while but I feel like I need to improve my skills with it if I want to progress my prop creation further.
Continue to explore lighting in the Unreal engine and see how far I can push my scene, especially with the environment being on a much smaller scale.
For now the idea for the scene is a kind of living room/common room of an old drilling station or oil rig with a steampunk run down scene. I've recently saw a trailer for a movie called Mortal Machines which is based on a book I read as a child. In their universe the world has ended and city's and town move around the planet on large wheels and treads, while preying and consuming smaller towns. I'll include a few screenshots below but I think creating a room from one of the smaller mining towns right now is where I'm going for this semester but I'll keep gathering references and start working on a few design ideas.
